#3: Window Treatments and Its Jewelry!

Bling bling! It’s all about the jewelry!

✔️ Don’t overlook hardware! The right window treatment hardware can make an inexpensive window treatment look luxurious, but the wrong hardware can make expensive window treatments look out of place and cheap.

  1. Well-functioning hardware

There are so many options when it comes to hardware. Did you know, not every option works for every treatment? Take a little time to think about the purpose of the window treatment, how it needs to operate, and then figure out your options.

    • Traversing or functioning panels…

      • Traversing rod

      • C bracket and C rings

    • Decorative

      • Think about the space that you have. You may fall in love with a beautiful finial - the decorative end piece of a drapery rod. It may measure five or more inches! But you may only have 10 inches until you get to the wall. 🤨 Is that going to give you enough space without making it feel cramped? You may elect to do an endcap on one side and a beautiful decorative finial on the other side. Or you may decide you’re better off not having decorative finials and go with a simpler end cap.

  2. Think about your home and your style. Your window treatment panels should come to the floor. Depending on the fabric function and type, you can either have them just an inch or so off the ground, kissing with a small break on the floor, or a full-blown puddle.
Please note that this will not be the most practical option if you elect to do a puddle on the floor.

  3. ✔️ Cover those ends! A correctly installed window treatment should return to the wall. Proper installation prevents awkward light shooting out the side of the window and creates a more tailored custom look.

  4. How do I make a traditional space more updated only by changing the window treatments?

This is a question that comes up pretty often with our clients who aren’t quite ready for a completely different style but want a little more of a contemporary “up-to-date look”…

We always recommend finding a great fabric that complements your color palette but perhaps has a more transitional pattern. This style works well with more traditional materials you may already have and want to keep. Even if you choose to go with a solid, we recommend bringing in some detailed hardware. The choices are endless: metal, glass, even lucite!

Just a few years ago, I remember when 90% of my window treatment jobs were using 2, 3, or 4-inch wood rods. I compare that with my current window treatment jobs, where we use thinner, sleeker, and often metal hardware. Change is inevitable in home fashions and the difference in styles as they pertain to function.
