Refresh or Renovate?
Most people are familiar with the term renovation or remodel, but many do not know the designer term - refresh. A renovation may entail a complete gut, rerouting the water line or gas line, and possibly knocking down a wall. Cabinets, floors, and lighting may be changed out during a remodel. If you are planning to keep the footprint of your home intact but want to spruce it up with paint, new appliances, or fixtures, this is what we here at Great Design 4 U refer to as a refresh.
Here are few questions we get asked when considering a refresh or a renovation.
How does the price differ from a refresh to a renovation?
Depending on the size of the space and how extensive the design is, it can be anywhere from a 25% to 75% cost difference.
How much time will it take to complete refresh versus a renovation?
With proper preparation and the size of the project, you may be looking at 4-6 weeks. However, you may be able to start the project sooner with a refresh versus a renovation due to supply delays, as some products may take several weeks to several months to arrive. We never want to start a project until all items are available!
What benefits are there to doing a refresh versus diving into a renovation?
There are several benefits in committing to a refresh! Fewer decisions to make, less supplies/products to purchase, less money spent, and choosing the timing to start and complete the project that best fits your schedule!
There are a few things to consider when contemplating a refresh over a renovation.
If the layout of your space is truly functional, a refresh is ideal. If not, a renovation may be in order.
The quality of cabinets in your space is an important marker. If the cabinets are old and unstable, refreshing them with paint would not be the best investment.
