Money-Saving Window Treatments!
Automation
Here is just one of the MANY wonderful videos uploaded to show you examples of motorized treatments
The best, most time-saving investment in window treatments
The average home has around 10 window treatments. If you open and close these window treatments every day, it will take you 10 minutes twice a day. That is 140 minutes a week! How much is that worth to you? If you apply this time to how much you make at work, maybe $100 or $200 an hour. At $150 an hour, you would make $17,940 a year to just open and close your window treatments! What could you do with $17,940 or 120 hours? Spend time with your family? Maybe stop off and get a coffee on the way to work? Or maybe 20 extra minutes of sleep every day?
Now let us talk about what can be automated …
Shades of all types…YES!
Blinds…Oh yeah!
Draperies…Absolutely!
Mindful investments and your window treatments
What should I expect to spend?
There are lots of factors to take into consideration. Instead, let us talk about what makes one treatment more of an investment than another?
· Fabric: Fabric can vary drastically from fiber content, thread per square inch, colors, whether it’s a printed fabric or the thread itself is dyed and then woven, the width of the fabric…. omg! Follow us for upcoming blogs for more details! Just understand that all fabrics are not the same and will differ in price from a couple of dollars a yard to hundreds of dollars which will reflect in the price of your finished window treatments. [Future blog post on fabric!]
· Dimensions: Custom treatments designed for your special function, needs, and style will ultimately be more of an investment. The longer and/or wider the treatment, the more fabric and labor, the more the investment as well.
· Finishing details: When thinking about your window treatments, the details are going to make a big difference in the price point also. Details like ensuring the treatment has a proper lining. Another detail to consider is the top treatment..does it have grommets or pleating? If so, what size and style of pleats? [Upcoming blog post on pleats!] Don’t forget drapery weights, so your treatment hangs as it should. And, of course, embellishments.
How long should I expect to have my window treatments?
With proper maintenance [Follow us for an upcoming blog on care and maintenance!], the right product and materials, and the correct use of the treatment, you can enjoy your investment for many years. You may want to change the look of your existing treatments or need a replacement. When you consider style and usage, a good general rule would be 10-15 years.
Now let us do some math! Case Study…
Background: Meet Antonio and Laura, 2 busy professionals that love traveling, cooking, entertaining, and spending time with their 2 puppies.
In Antonio’s words … ”I have a living room/ great room area with 8 large windows looking onto the lake (awesome views!). The sun is strong causing awful glares on the TV making it hard to watch the big game and causing the room to feel hot. We feel as if the AC is always running on high and the sun seems to always be in our faces. We love the bright room BUT this is awful! And on top of that with the tall ceilings, hardwood floors, and lack of walls we hear everything. We need something to help with the echo and noise! We are also really busy with work, travel, family… who has time to run around messing the window treatments?! With help from our designer, we decided to invest $12,500 and order motorized shades with an app. This was a game-changer! Everything is set up for use on the app. They open when we want them to and block out the light when it is necessary. We even have settings for entertaining and going on vacation! If we want to override the setting because it is a rainy day and we don’t need the shade, it’s just one click and done! We chose a great fabric that Laura was very pleased with, and I love that the house feels cooler, and the echoes are gone. We figure with the $12,500 investment; we have spent about $2,000 a year or just $40 a week if we stay in our home for another 6 years. Now I have that extra time to stop for my favorite latte every day! But seriously, if we decide to move sooner, we know this will be a BIG feature that will most definitely sell the house quicker!”
